Job summary

Teach Now is seeking a dedicated KS1 Teaching Assistant for a long-term role at a supportive primary school in Barnet. The position runs full-time, term-time hours, with a daily rate of £90–£100 and a start date of 8 September 2026.

You will support learning across Key Stage 1, lead phonics and early reading activities, and assist pupils with handwriting and communication. Experience with SEN and safeguarding is valued.

Qualifications

• Has recent experience supporting primary-aged children.
• KS1 experience and phonics/early reading background preferred.
• Clear communication with children and staff is essential.
• Safeguarding and inclusive practice demonstrated.

• Helping pupils develop handwriting and communication skills
• Providing additional support for pupils with SEN
• Encouraging positive learning behaviour and independence
• Preparing classroom resources and practical activities
• Observing pupil progress and reporting back to the teacher
• Supporting safe transitions, playtimes and classroom routines

Candidate Profile

• Has recent experience supporting primary-aged children
• Understands the learning and development needs of KS1 pupils
• Has experience supporting phonics or early reading
• Communicates clearly and positively with children
• Can maintain warm but consistent boundaries
• Works well with teachers and other support staff
• Has the right to work in the UK
• Is committed to safeguarding and inclusion
• A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable. Relevant experience in a school, nursery or intervention setting will also be considered.
