Job summary

Term Time Teachers Ltd is seeking a Primary Special Needs Teacher in Tonbridge to join a supportive, inclusive learning environment. The role is full-time, temporary to permanent, with an ASAP start and a daily pay rate of £130-£250 dependent on qualifications and responsibilities.

You will deliver high-quality teaching to a primary class with a range of needs, work with teaching assistants, parents, and external specialists, and adapt lessons to meet individual abilities.

Qualifications

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification is required.
  • Experience with primary-aged children and special educational needs is essential.
  • Ability to adapt lessons for individual learning needs.
  • Experience working with IEPs and personalised learning plans is desirable.
  • Experience collaborating with teaching assistants, parents, carers and external specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Create a stimulating, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupils' progress to inform planning.
  • Provide personalised support to develop academic, social, emotional, and communication skills.
  • Use positive reinforcement and evidence-based strategies to promote engagement and progress.
  • Establish routines to create a calm, safe learning environment and promote inclusion.
  • Work with teaching assistants to provide effective individual and small-group support.
  • Implement strategies to address pupils' behavioural and emotional needs.

About the School

At academics, we're looking for a special needs teacher! This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to support primary-aged children with a range of special educational needs. As a Primary Special Educational Needs Teacher, you will create a nurturing, structured, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued, understood, and supported to reach their full potential. You will work closely with teaching assistants, parents, carers, and external specialists to deliver personalised learning experiences.

Role Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning to a primary class of pupils with special educational needs, adapting lessons and teaching approaches to meet individual abilities, developmental stages, and learning requirements. The successful candidate will create a positive and supportive classroom environment where pupils feel safe, motivated, and encouraged to develop their confidence, independence, and life skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create a stimulating, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and independence.
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupils' progress, using observations and assessment information to inform future planning.
  • Provide personalised support to help pupils develop academically, socially, emotionally, and communicatively.
  • Use positive reinforcement and appropriate teaching strategies to encourage engagement, confidence, and progress.Classroom Management and Inclusion
  • Establish clear routines and expectations to create a calm, safe, and purposeful learning environment.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure all pupils feel valued.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants to provide effective individual and small-group support.
  • Implement appropriate strategies to support pupils' behaviour, emotional needs, and individual learning plans.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and other professionals involved in their education.
Person Specification
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience working with primary-aged children, ideally within a special educational needs setting.
  • Experience supporting children with a range of special needs.
  • Familiarity with individual education plans and personalised learning approaches.
  • Experience working collaboratively.
  • Hold a DBS or willing to apply
