Job summary

Empowering Learning is seeking an experienced Primary School Teaching Assistant to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing across Derby primary schools. You will work with the class teacher, support individuals or small groups, and help pupils reach their full potential.

We offer full-time, part-time and day-to-day positions with competitive rates dependent on experience. DBS Enhanced is required; DBS Update Service is preferred; willingness to obtain if not held.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a primary school or similar setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's education and development.

Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning across Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Provide additional support to pupils who may require extra help.
  • Assist with classroom activities and preparation.
  • Help create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional and educational development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and pupil engagement.
  • Supervise pupils during lessons, breaks and activities.
  • Assist with classroom organisation and general teaching duties.
  • Build relationships with pupils, teachers and staff.
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures.

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity within a primary school setting? We are currently recruiting enthusiastic, reliable and committed Teaching Assistants to work across primary schools in Derby.

We have a range of opportunities available, including full-time, part-time and day-to-day roles, giving you the flexibility to find a position that suits your experience, availability and career goals.

The Role

As a Primary School Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils with their learning, development and wellbeing. You may work alongside the class teacher, support individual pupils or work with small groups to help children reach their full potential.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2.
  • Working with individuals and small groups of pupils to reinforce learning.
  • Providing additional support to pupils who may require extra assistance with their education.
  • Assisting the class teacher with classroom activities and preparation.
  • Helping to create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils with their social, emotional and educational development.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils remain engaged with their learning.
  • Supervising pupils during lessons, break times and other school activities where required.
  • Assisting with classroom organisation and general teaching duties.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, teachers and other school staff.
  • Following school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
About You

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous experience working with children within a primary school or similar educational setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and/or Key Stage 2.
  • A relevant qualification such as a Teaching Assistant qualification, Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification, CACHE qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's education and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, caring and approachable nature.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A professional and reliable approach to work.
  • The confidence to support pupils with different learning abilities and needs.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of maintaining a safe environment for children.
DBS Requirement

Due to the nature of the role, candidates will be required to have an Enhanced DBS suitable for working with children.

Ideally, your DBS will be registered on the DBS Update Service.

If you do not currently have a suitable Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, you must be willing to obtain one at your own cost as part of the recruitment process, subject to the applicable DBS requirements.
