We are looking for a compassionate, patient and resilient individual with experience supporting primary-aged children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.

The PRU provides a supportive and structured environment for pupils who may have experienced difficulties accessing mainstream education. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships and build the confidence and skills needed to succeed.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide tailored classroom support, encourage positive behaviour and create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

If you are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and want to make a meaningful difference in their educational journey, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your experience within a specialist educational setting.

To be successful for this role, you must:
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting primary-aged children with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Have experience working with children who display challenging behaviour or experience barriers to learning.
  • Be confident supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Have experience working within education, SEND, PRU, childcare or care settings.
  • Be patient, understanding, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be committed to helping pupils improve their engagement, confidence and academic progress.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team while following guidance from teaching staff.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Supporting pupils in the classroom on a 1:1 and small-group basis.
  • Assisting the class teacher with delivering engaging lessons and activities.
  • Providing additional support to pupils who require help accessing the curriculum.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and participation in learning.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and social development.
  • Helping maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
  • Supervising pupils inside and outside the classroom, including during break times and transitions.
  • Preparing classroom resources and assisting with lesson preparation.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils to encourage trust, confidence and independence.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to meet individual pupil needs.
When working with Empowering Learning Ltd, you will benefit from:
  • A dedicated consultant with extensive experience, focused on helping you find the ideal role and setting while providing support throughout your assignment.
  • Competitive pay rates based on your experience.
  • A quick clearance process, with most steps available online.
