Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is partnering with a Primary Alternative Provision in the Blackpool area to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Support Worker for Key Stages 1 and 2.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to pupils with SEMH, helping them regulate emotions and re-engage with learning while safeguarding follows KCSIE guidelines. Role is full-time, Monday to Friday, with long-term supply and potential Temp-to-Perm.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting primary-aged children with SEMH, trauma or challenging behaviour.
• Willingness to undertake Enhanced Child Workforce DBS and Update Service.
• Able to work 1:1 and in small groups with empathy and resilience.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily emotional support, check-ins, and mentoring to vulnerable pupils.

Location: Blackpool area, Lancashire (easily accessible via local transport links)

Provision Type: Primary Alternative Provision / Specialist SEMH Provision (Key Stage 1 & 2)

Contract Type: Long-Term Supply / Temp-to-Perm (ASAP Start)

Pay Rate: £95 - £125 per day

Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (School hours)

About Tradewind Recruitment & The Provision

Tradewind Recruitment is working alongside a dedicated Primary Alternative Provision in the Blackpool area to find an empathetic and driven Pastoral Support Worker. This specialist setting caters to primary-aged children (Key Stages 1 and 2) who have been excluded from mainstream education or require targeted Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support.

The Role

In this vital pastoral role, you will work closely with primary school-aged pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis. Many of these young learners experience early childhood trauma, anxiety, or behavioural challenges. Your goal is to act as an anchor and positive mentor, helping children regulate their emotions, build social skills, and safely reintegrate into engaging learning activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Pastoral Care & Mentoring: Provide daily emotional support, check-ins, and mentoring to vulnerable primary pupils.
• Behavior Management: Utilise positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalation techniques, and therapeutic approaches tailored to young children.
• Engagement & Activity Support: Assist teaching staff in delivering alternative, creative, and life-skills-based primary curriculum.
• Safeguarding: Safeguard and promote the welfare of children in line with school policies and statutory guidelines (KCSIE).
• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain open communication lines with teaching staff, agency consultants, and where appropriate, parents/carers.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience: Previous experience supporting primary-aged children, specifically those with SEMH, challenging behavior, or trauma backgrounds (experience within a PRU, AP, or SEND primary school is highly desirable).
• Attributes: Resilience, boundless patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach under pressure.
• Qualifications: Relevant childcare, youth work, or health and social care qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Justice, or Psychology degrees) are a distinct advantage.
• Vetting: Must hold a valid Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one through Tradewind).
