Job summary

Pertemps Specialist Talent Solutions is seeking a Press Setter Operator in Birmingham for a permanent role. You will set and operate power presses (20–250 tonnes), produce high‑quality components to engineering drawings and tolerances, and carry out tool changes and machine set-ups.

This role requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience setting presses, reading drawings, and using measuring tools (verniers, micrometers, gauges).

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience operating and setting power presses.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and manufacture components to tolerances.
• Experience using verniers, micrometers and gauges for inspection.
• Basic computer literacy and tool-change capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes.
• Produce components to engineering drawings and specified tolerances.
• Carry out tool changes, adjustments, and machine set-ups using appropriate tooling, jigs and fixtures.
• Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring equipment.
• Ensure products meet specifications and quality standards.
• Work with Production Coordinators and Engineers to maximise machine efficiency and minimise downtime.
• Adhere to production schedules and achieve daily targets.
• Maintain accurate production and traceability documentation.
• Identify and report machine faults or production issues promptly.
• Support and assist training of colleagues.

Hours: 38 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Rotating 2-Shift System (Weekly Rotation)

Press Setter Operator - Permanent Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Press Setter Operator to join a leading manufacturing business. Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes.
• Produce high-quality components to engineering drawings and specified tolerances.
• Carry out tool changes, adjustments, and machine set-ups using the appropriate tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
• Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring equipment.
• Ensure all products are manufactured to specification and meet quality standards.
• Work closely with Production Coordinators and Engineers to maximise machine efficiency and minimise downtime.
• Adhere to production schedules and achieve daily production targets.
• Maintain accurate production and traceability documentation.
• Identify and report machine faults or production issues promptly.
• Support and assist with training colleagues where required.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and follow 5S principles.
• Promote and work in accordance with all Health & Safety procedures.

About You

• A minimum of 2 years' experience operating and setting power presses within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with presses from 20T to 250T.
• The ability to read engineering drawings and manufacture components to tight tolerances.
• Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to carry out tooling changes and machine adjustments.
• Basic computer literacy.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English are desirable.

Monday - Thursday: 6:00am - 2:00pm

Friday: 6:00am - 12:00pm

PM Shift

Monday - Thursday: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
