Shape the Future: Be a Preschool for All Assistant Teacher at Buehler YMCA!

The PFAE Assistant Teacher works cooperatively with classroom teachers to ensure prompt and responsive care for each child, addressing their emotional, social, physical, and educational needs. Principal duties include promoting a positive classroom climate, engaging children in developmentally appropriate activities and play, and providing high-quality language experiences. Responsibilities also involve child observation, assessment, and adapting routines to meet individual interests and abilities.

The Assistant Teacher communicates with classroom teachers regarding child care and classroom management, conducts observations and assessments, and ensures individual needs are met according to Head Start, NAEYC, and other standards.

Salary starts at $51,744 per year based on qualifications

Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Provide responsive caregiving to foster secure relationships and support social-emotional well-being.
  • Support continuity of care as per agency plans.
  • Assist in planning and delivering age-appropriate activities to promote development across all domains, indoors and outdoors.
  • Support academic instruction for English Language Learners, aiding their linguistic and cognitive growth.
  • Ensure safety and health at all times, indoors and outside.
  • Meet children at their physical level and support individual needs.
  • Interact with children individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Maintain documentation on health, attendance, and meals.
  • Support children with special needs and dual language learners.
  • Model positive language, interactions, and discipline.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with families to encourage involvement.
  • Participate in recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention efforts.
  • Adhere to Head Start standards and curriculum guidelines.
  • Handle sensitive information confidentially.
Lesson Planning and Classroom Management:
  • Develop lesson plans with team input, integrating health, nutrition, and family involvement.
  • Display children's work appropriately and maintain an engaging environment.
  • Model family-style eating and ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Assist in classroom organization, inventory, and assessment documentation.
  • Administer screenings and observe children's progress regularly.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of each child's development.
Minimum and Preferred Requirements:
  • CDI credential, Gateways Level 2, or Associate's Degree with early childhood coursework.
  • Experience with children aged 3-5.
  • Understanding of child development principles.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with children and families, including high-risk populations.
  • Organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and pass background checks.
Child Abuse Prevention:
  • Report hazards and suspicious behavior.
  • Follow policies for child safety and supervision.
  • Complete required training.
