We are a close‑knit team and provide free parking on‑site, monthly Team meetings and currently no weekend or Bank holiday working.
The ideal candidate will have experience in Treatment Room duties and/or a willingness to undertake training with enthusiasm to work within a forward thinking Multidisciplinary Team. Experience is not essential but must be willing to undertake the Practice Nursing qualification if required.
Remuneration is dependent on experience and qualifications. The salary scale will be Newbold Surgery Band 5 £32,576‑£39,322 pro rata.

Responsibilities
- Practice independently, working within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC 2015.
- Ensure clinical effectiveness by keeping up to date with current practice‑agreed protocols and guidelines.
- Deliver basic practice nursing services and care to the practice population. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long‑term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.
- Work collaboratively with the General Practice Team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
- Participate in activities to further develop the role for the benefit of patients.
- Provide mentoring, supervision and training for less experienced health care professionals.
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Senior Nursing staff and GPs such as BP checks, urinalysis, venepuncture.
- Request basic pathology tests (urine culture, swabs, bloods) as per agreed clinical protocols and referral to senior practice nurses or GPs as appropriate.
- Administer B12 replacement therapy and other ongoing injectable therapy, monitoring as appropriate.
- Maintain stock within nursing and treatment rooms with appropriate storage and stock rotation.
- Women’s Health – Cervical cytology, vaginal swabs and family planning; support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning; manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations.
- Men’s Health – Prostate monitoring and management.
- Wound Management – Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds in line with local guidelines; collaborate with the integrated nursing team for more complex wounds.
- Ear Care – Advise patients on ear self‑care and wax management; provide routine ear care in line with practice guidelines; referral to and signposting to ear care specialist services.
- Work with the PHCT in managing the delivery of national and local enhanced services including learning disabilities and mental health reviews.
- Assist senior practice nurses in ongoing monitoring and management of long‑term conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and CVD.
- Provide holistic assessment and health promotion programmes, lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol and exercise to encourage healthy living and self‑care.
- Anticoagulant Management – Include INR clinics and housebound home visits for INR monitoring.
- Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist patients in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
- Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in line with current UK guidelines.
- Chaperone and assist patients when appropriate during examinations by another clinician.
- Assist GPs with minor operations, coil fits and implants when requested.
- Immunisation (Adult and Child) – Assess patients for immunisation; administer vaccinations, guidance per PGDs; delegate to health care assistants the administration of vaccinations and B12 injections via PSD; manage complex immunisation issues; maintain vaccine stock levels; administer immunisation autonomously in accordance with the Green Book.
- Professional Responsibilities, Audit and Research – Participate in the maintenance of clinical governance systems; use audit tools to evaluate quality of work and implement improvements; deliver care according to NICE, local and practice guidelines; record accurate and legible notes in patient notes.
- Training and Personal Development – Assess and be responsible for own learning and training needs in line with NMC revalidation; develop and maintain a personal development plan; participate in mandatory training; take responsibility for own development and perform programmes such as annual review, education programmes for whole primary health care team, disseminate learning to team.
- Team Working – Assist the practice nurse team manager with the management of nursing services in participation with practice manager and GP partners; understand own role and scope and develop role; act as an effective team member; support and delegate to less experienced team members; prioritise workload and improve health care innovatively.
- Management of Risk – Manage cold chain, assess risk, apply infection control measures, maintain tidy safe areas, report potential risks, adhere to child health clinical policy.
- Managing Information – Use IT to manage planning, implement and monitor care, present and communicate information; manage information using clinical system, computer decision support software, internet and local databases.
- Confidentiality – Respect confidentiality, maintain strict confidentiality of patient, carer, staff and business information, disclose only to authorised persons.

Qualifications (Essential)
- Registered General Nurse.
- Treatment room skills e.g. phlebotomy, wound dressings, immunisation and vaccinations, cytology, ear care and health promotion.
Desirable Qualifications
- Attainment of qualifications in practice nursing (cervical cytology, family planning, immunisation training for childhood and adult immunisations).
- Previous training in community setting with relevant attainment of skills (wound management, health promotion).
Skills & Knowledge (Essential)
- Driver with access to own reliable vehicle or alternative means of transport to undertake home visits and work purposes.
- Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake additional training related to role of practice nurse including immunisation training for childhood and adult immunisations, travel etc.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
- SystmOne user.
- Knowledge of QOF.
- General practice nursing skills.
Experience (Essential)
- Training or mentoring of nursing and medical trainees in a clinical setting.
- Ability to delegate effectively.
