Job summary
The Practice will be seeking to employ a Practice Nurse to work 24 hours per week in Greenmount Surgery. Our list size is around 12000 patients and we have good GP and administrative support teams in place along with excellent HCA's and Practice Nurses.
The ideal candidate will be motivated, forward thinking, enthusiastic and will manage their own workload. They will possess excellent communication skills and will be flexible to the needs of the service. A good understanding of QaiF is essential. Full training will be provided.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate must be able to provide (or be willing to train) to manage our chronic disease clinics (asthma, COPD, diabetes and heart disease), childhood vaccinations, zoladex injections, contraception, wound management, cervical cytology and spirometry.

With approximately 12,000 patients we are looking for a motivated Practice Nurse to join our forward thinking, enthusiastic team. Our GPs are dedicated to training medical students and allied clinical staff. Our aim is to deliver a high quality primary care service, which includes most enhanced services.

Work alongside the Nursing team to develop personal practice nursing skills. Be actively involved in assisting the practice in achieving maximum quality indicators and targets of the GMS contract and National Service Frameworks.Undertake opportunistic screening.Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography having undertaken appropriate training.Undertake wound care/ management/dressing techniques. Undertake male, female and family planning assessments, give advice and refer patients appropriately following appropriate training.Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness following appropriate training.Administer injections under an individualised prescription or Patient Group Direction, ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.Successfully complete accredited training in specific chronic diseases. Diabetes, Respiratory, COPD, Asthma and CHD.Responsible for the nursing assessment, education, and management of Chronic Disease patients and to be actively involved in developing practice protocols and guidelines.Contribute to the maintenance of the practice diseases registers.Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assist and support patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours diet advice exercise advice smoking cessation and refer appropriately.Provides an adult and childhood immunisation service working to Patient Group Directions following appropriate training.Delivers travel health care, including vaccinations and advice for patients following appropriate training.Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies and be aware of local, referral procedures.Ensure that current evidence based approaches to patient care are standard practice.Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling of laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillages and report and treat sharps injuries.Undertake first aid and management of emergencies, eg burns, haemorrhage, hypo/hyperglycaemic emergencies/asthma attacks.Undertakes annual training and demonstrates competency in anaphylaxis, resuscitation and defib techniques.
