Practice Accountant — Client-Focused OMB/SME Accounts

Job summary

TPF Recruitment is supporting a well established and growing accountancy practice in recruiting an experienced Practice Accountant in Croydon. This role offers ownership of a portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SME clients, with a focus on accounts preparation and tax.

You will be personable, commercially minded and comfortable liaising directly with clients, reviewing work of junior team members, and delivering high-quality accounting and tax services.

Qualifications

• AAT, ACCA or ACA qualified, or qualified by experience.
• Solid experience within an accountancy practice.
• Strong experience across accounts preparation for OMB and SME clients.
• Previous experience managing a portfolio of clients.
• Good knowledge of corporation tax and personal tax.
• Confident dealing directly with clients and building relationships.
• Personable, approachable and commercially minded.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Able to work independently and take ownership of client work.
• Experience supervising or supporting junior team members would be advantageous.
• A genuine interest in developing strong client relationships and providing a high quality service.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of predominantly OMB and SME clients
• Acting as a key point of contact and building strong, long term client relationships
• Liaising with clients regularly by phone, email and in person
• Reviewing accounts preparation work completed by junior members of the team
• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
• Preparing and reviewing corporation tax computations and returns
• Supporting with personal tax returns and associated tax work
• Providing clients with general accounting and tax advice
• Reviewing bookkeeping and VAT work where required
• Identifying opportunities to provide additional support and advisory services to clients
• Working closely with Partners and senior team members on more complex matters
• Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team
• Managing your own workload and ensuring client deadlines are met
• Keeping up to date with relevant accounting and tax legislation
• Assisting with ad hoc advisory and client projects
