Job summary

Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group is seeking a trades support role to help run practical lessons and support learners in building hands-on skills. You will prepare materials, ensure clean, safe workspaces and maintain tools and equipment to support high-quality practical sessions.

There is potential to progress into teaching through a development programme, with mentorship and College-funded Level 3 teaching qualification offered to the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Experienced in a construction trade (bricklaying, carpentry, joinery or maintenance).
• Reliable, positive and ready to muck in as part of a team.
• Organised and able to prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical sessions.
• Committed to maintaining a safe, stimulating learning and working environment.
• Keen to share practical knowledge and support learners with different needs and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Help run practical lessons and support learners in the Trades department.
• Prepare materials, tools and equipment and set up workspaces for sessions.
• Maintain tools and equipment and ensure a safe learning and working environment.
• Support learners as they develop practical skills and industry knowledge.
• Opportunity to progress into teaching through a development programme with a mentor and College-funded Level 3 teaching qualification.

Our Trades department has grown significantly in recent years, with more apprentices and full-time learners, alongside major investment in staff, facilities and equipment. Now we\'re looking for someone with industry experience, a positive attitude and a can-do approach to help support our growing team.

You don\'t need to be an experienced teacher to get involved. You\'ll help make practical lessons run smoothly, prepare materials and workspaces, maintain tools and equipment, and support learners as they develop their practical skills and industry knowledge. For those with the right experience and confidence, there\'s also the opportunity to progress into teaching through a development programme, with a mentor and a College-funded Level 3 teaching qualification.
