We provide advice on strategic, financial, regulatory, and commercial issues across various industries in the UK and internationally. Our work includes market and policy design, economic analysis, deal structuring, and strategic advice.

We are expanding and seek high-quality candidates to support our economic capabilities, especially in competition economics. The role will involve working across sectors to support organizations and legal counsel in high-stakes situations requiring robust economic evidence, such as antitrust and regulatory engagement.

The Role

We seek a motivated individual to join our regulatory finance team as an Associate Director focusing on competition economics. The candidate should be eager to lead in building our economics practice. The team collaborates closely with regulatory finance experts and econometricians on high-profile projects like subsidy control, CMA re-determinations, and major transactions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects and maintain client relationships with minimal supervision.
  • Deliver high-quality work, manage client interactions, track budgets, and adhere to risk processes.
  • Lead project teams of 2-12 members, fostering collaboration and respect.
  • Support sales efforts, build relationships with clients and advisors, and identify new opportunities.
  • Contribute to team management, recruitment, performance, mentoring, and thought leadership.
The Person

Qualifications and skills include:

  • MA/MSc/MPhil or higher in Economics; PhD preferred, focusing on competition, microeconomics, or econometrics.
  • Experience as an economist in consulting, regulation, or government.
  • Expertise in competition economics.
  • Experience managing large projects and teams.
  • Ability to explain complex economics clearly; excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable in external roles and presenting to clients.
  • Independent problem solver with innovative thinking.
  • Business development experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of UK utilities markets and regulation is desirable.
  • Quantitative techniques and econometrics experience preferred, including programming skills in R, Stata, or similar.
