Job summary

SSEN Transmission in Scotland seeks a System Planning and Investment Engineer to join the System Optimisation Team, delivering robust power system planning to support low‑carbon generation integration in the North Scotland network.

You will develop optimisation models, validate Power System models (PSSE/DIgSILENT) and collaborate with planning, outage and regulatory teams to produce auditable analyses and clear recommendations.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Mathematics or related field.
• Experience in power system analysis, design and outage planning, ideally within the Transmission area.
• Experience using power system analysis tools such as PSSE, Power Factory or similar.
• Ability to write clear and well-structured technical reports and network requirements for senior management.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and apply optimisation models for the transmission network to assess performance and constraints with robust, traceable outputs.
• Optimise network topology, energisation sequencing, outage strategies and constraint management for system studies.
• Build, update and validate power system models with industry-standard tools (PSSE, PowerFactory) and contribute to modelling improvements.
• Utilise data analytics and automation to enhance optimisation workflows and develop digital tools for scenario analyses.
• Collaborate with planning, outage, operations and project teams and external stakeholders; present technical results clearly for audits and regulatory submissions.
