Position Overview/Duties

Position Title: Power Plant Electrician A, WB-2810-00

Series/Grade: WB-2810-00

Who May Apply: This position is open to CURRENT, PERMANENT USACE EMPLOYEES ONLY. You must be a power plant electrician to qualify.

Open Period: 25 August – 3 September

Duty Location: St. Stephen, SC.

Duties

  • In accordance with standard operating procedures and established trade techniques the incumbent serves as a Power Plant Electrician A with responsibility performing installation, modification, diagnostic evaluation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of all electrical equipment at a hydroelectric power project which consists of a powerhouse, dam or dams, and related works. The unit rated capacities vary from 1,000 kW to 175,000 KW with transmission voltages up to 230,000 volts. The plants may include reversible generator/turbine units capable of pumping. In the absence of the Power Plant Senior Electrician, the incumbent may be required to perform any of the duties of that position.

This opportunity is being announced through the USACE Voluntary Internal Opportunities Program (VIOP). Current, permanent USACE employees with noncompetitive eligibility to be placed in this position are eligible to apply.   • Minimum Experience Requirement: Power Plant Electrician A (Screen Out Element): Must have the ability to perform common tasks of a Power Plant Electrician in a hydroelectric power plant of 84- megawatt generation capability or larger. Can execute plans and daily work assignments under the direction of the senior electrician. Has the ability to maintain, install, and troubleshoot hydropower and electrical dams, maintain records and data associated with maintenance and repair work. Has the capability to operate cranes, spillway gates, and hoist equipment, and perform associated rigging required for safe operation of hoist equipment. Has qualifications as an ‘A’ Electrician in accordance with SAD Policy/Regulation. Has the ability to execute work assignments, giving criticality to the highest priority work under senior electrician's direction, to work in teams and treat everyone with respect and dignity.

This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U. S . states or possessions to operate vehicles.
