X4 Technology is seeking a Power Electronic Magnetics Design Engineer to join our site-based South West England team. You will own projects from concept through prototype, working on custom high-frequency and planar magnetic components for demanding applications.

You will design transformers, inductors and other magnetic components, run calculations and simulations, and support manufacturing and customer deliverables while collaborating with an international engineering network.

Power Electronic Magnetics Design Engineer

Location: South West England | On-site | Permanent

Are you a Power Electronics Engineer with experience in transformer, inductor or magnetic component design?

We’re hiring for an exciting opportunity to join a specialist engineering and manufacturing business designing custom high-frequency and planar magnetic components for demanding applications across a range of industries.

Working within a collaborative, hands-on design team, you’ll take ownership of projects from initial concept and calculations through to prototype development, manufacturing support and customer engagement.

The role

You’ll be involved in:

• Designing transformers, inductors and other power electronic magnetic components
• Developing custom solutions for high-power applications
• Performing design calculations, simulations and technical analysis
• Supporting prototype builds and reducing manufacturing risk early in the design process
• Working closely with manufacturing, mechanical and R&D colleagues to refine designs
• Incorporating production feedback into future product development
• Supporting customer discussions, troubleshooting and technical project delivery
• Collaborating with an international engineering network on complex projects

What we’re looking for

• A background in power electronics design, particularly transformers, inductors or magnetics
• Experience designing power supplies or working with converter topologies
• Exposure to high-frequency transformer design is highly desirable; planar magnetics experience would be a bonus
• Comfortable with technical calculations, simulation and practical engineering problem-solving
• Familiarity with tools such as ANSYS Maxwell or similar magnetic simulation software would be advantageous
• An interest in understanding how components are manufactured - not just designed
• A collaborative, adaptable approach and confidence communicating with customers and colleagues

The position is primarily site-based in the South West, reflecting the practical, prototype-led nature of the work.
