Job summary

Masstemps, a respected manufacturing supplier near Smethwick, is seeking an experienced Powder Coater to join a busy production team. You will prepare components, apply powder coatings and cure them to a high standard, ensuring quality finishes.

Ideal candidates have powder coating experience, good eye for detail and the ability to work well in a team within a fast-paced environment. Monday to Friday 09:00am–18:00pm at a busy site near Smethwick.

Qualifications

• Experience in powder coating, preferably within automotive or metal manufacturing.
• Familiarity with surface preparation and spray application.
• Knowledge of powder coating processes, curing and quality checks.
• Good eye for detail to identify imperfections in coatings.
• Able to work in a busy manufacturing/refurbishment environment.
• Excellent manual dexterity and safe handling of metal components.

Responsibilities

• Prepare components for powder coating and surface cleaning.
• Remove old coatings, corrosion, dirt and contaminants.
• Mask areas to protect from coating and load onto line.
• Apply powder coating evenly using spray equipment.
• Operate curing ovens and ensure correct curing.
• Inspect coatings for coverage, colour, and defects.
• Carry out finishing touches and touch-ups as required.
• Maintain equipment and report faults.
• Keep workshop and coating area clean and hazard-free.

Masstemps is currently recruiting for an experienced Powder Coater to join a well-established and busy manufacturing company based near the Smethwick area.

THE ROLE

• Prepare metal components for powder coating, including cleaning, degreasing and surface preparation.
• Remove existing coatings, corrosion, dirt and contaminants using appropriate preparation methods.
• Mask areas that require protection from the powder coating process.
• Load and hang alloy wheels and components onto the coating line/racking system.
• Apply powder coating evenly using spray equipment to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish.
• Operate and monitor powder coating ovens, ensuring components are cured to the required specification.
• Inspect finished products for coverage, colour consistency, defects and overall quality.
• Carry out minor finishing, fettling and touch-up work where required.
• Handle components safely throughout the preparation, coating and curing process.
• Maintain powder coating equipment and report any faults or issues.
• Keep the workshop and coating area clean, tidy and free from hazards.

ABOUT YOU

• Previous powder coating experience is preferred, ideally within the automotive or metal manufacturing environment.
• Experience with surface preparation and spray application is desirable.
• Knowledge of powder coating processes, curing and quality requirements.
• Good eye for detail and ability to identify imperfections in finished coatings.
• Comfortable working in a busy manufacturing/refurbishment environment.
• Good manual dexterity and ability to handle metal components safely.
• Reliable, hardworking and able to work as part of a team.
