Job summary

Yorkshire Water is seeking a Water Quality Scientist - Potable to join our Water Quality team. You will help ensure clean and safe drinking water for our region, lead incidents and collaborate across production and distribution sites to protect public health.

The role offers a mix of site, office and home working, 37 hours per week with an out-of-hours standby rota. Salary ranges from £35,500 to £44,375, plus a potential performance-related bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Understanding of water quality processes and regulatory obligations.
• Ability to respond to incidents to protect public health and minimise impacts on compliance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to solve problems under pressure and to deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and fault-finding abilities.
• Ability to handle large amounts of diverse data and spot risks to compliance.
• Can-do attitude with planning for the future and adaptability.
• Excellent influencing and networking skills with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead coordinated, planned incident responses and ensure actions are implemented.
• Prepare regulator reports and review exception reports from the science team.
• Ensure compliance with CRI, ERI, Customer Contacts and UPO commitments.
• Serve as water quality consultant on a 1 in 5-week basis for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide expert support during standby rota and assist the Water Quality Manager.
