Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Westhill, AB32 6AB for a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will work 30 hours per week across Monday to Saturday, with shifts from 10:00 to 16:20 and potential overtime. You may be assigned to nearby Delivery Offices to meet demand.

As a Postie, you will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area, outdoors in all weather. Training is provided.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated with strong organisational skills.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service.
• Comfortable outdoors and working independently.

Location: Westhill Delivery Office, AB32 6AB

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days across Monday - Saturday – 10:00am/16:20pm* (hours subject to change)

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll may be required to work out of nearby Delivery Offices to support demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
