Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Northallerton is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed term 12-month contract. You will sort letters, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in the local area.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, physical fitness for long walks, and availability to work a rotating shift including Sundays and weekends. Training is provided, with overtime available.

Location: Northallerton Delivery Office, DL7 8JY

Job type: Fixed Term contract(12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 09:00/16:15*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Northallerton Delivery Office.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
