Job summary

Royal Mail in Prudhoe is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. You will deliver letters and parcels on a rotating 5-day schedule, 30 hours per week, with weekend work and overtime.

You will drive a Royal Mail van, walk routes, and build relationships with customers, outdoors in all weather. A full manual UK driving licence is required with up to 6 penalty points; training will be provided. Start times vary between 10:00 and 20:00, with overtime available.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – Earliest Start: 10:00/Latest Finish: 20:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
