Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels, build customer relationships, and work outdoors across your local area. The role requires a full UK driving licence, physical fitness for walking long distances, and the ability to work 27.5 hours per week across five days, including weekends.

Training and a uniform are provided. Rota details and delivery routes vary with demand. Sundays at specified delivery offices may be required.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) registered to your name and address.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.

Location: Heaton Delivery Office, NE6 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term

Contract: 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour * (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 27:30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Saturday – 09:00/16:30 *

With Sunday times being - 12:30/17:30

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Balliol Unit 1, Benton Lane, Longbenton, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE12 8EW Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
