Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) at the Stornoway Delivery Office to deliver letters and parcels across Isle of Lewis. The role is 37 hours per week on a 5-in-6 rota, Monday to Saturday, with a rotating shift and full training provided.

You'll need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points), be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working outdoors and independently. The job includes weekends and a supportive pension and wellbeing benefits.

Location: Stornoway Delivery Office, HS1 2RA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday – 07:00/14:24*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
