Job summary

Royal Mail in Grays is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You’ll sort, load and deliver letters and parcels, building relationships with customers while working a rotating shift schedule.

You’ll work 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday, with shifts from early morning to evening and weekends on a rota. A full manual UK driving licence (max 6 points) and the ability to pass a driving assessment are required.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.

Job description

Location: Grays Delivery Office, RM17 5QB

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 Months)

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hrs hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday. Shifts will be between 6am and 10pm on a shift basis. Morning shifts usually 8am -3.45pm and evening shifts usually 1.30pm - 8pm with flexibility needed at peak times.

Sunday shifts will be 11.30-6pm on a rota basis.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be based at the Grays Delivery office but may be required to work at the following:

• Ilford Delivery Office
• Woodford Green Delivery Office

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
