Job summary

Royal Mail in Ampthill area is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. You will deliver letters and parcels across Bedford, using a Royal Mail van and on foot, following a rotating schedule that includes Sundays.

You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points) and be physically fit to walk long distances, lift mailbags, and work outdoors in all weather. Full training and a red van are provided.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Wednesday - Sunday – 07:10 Wednesday, 7:40 Thursday-Friday, 7:20 Saturday 10:30 Sunday/15:10 Wednesday, 14:40 Thursday-Friday, 14:20 Saturday 16:30 Sunday*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Bedford Delivery Office.

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
