Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Driffield. The role covers delivering letters and parcels, working a 30-hour week across Monday to Sunday, with some Sundays required. You’ll rotate shifts and receive full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Location: Driffield Delivery Office, YO25 9GG

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days across Monday - Sunday – 09:45/15:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work some Sundays at Driffield Delivery Office, YO25 9GG, 11:30am - 5:30pm

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
