Royal Mail is hiring a Postie in Pickering for a fixed-term 6-month contract. The role is 30 hours per week across five days, including weekends, with a rota that may vary. Salary is £13.68 per hour plus paid overtime, paid monthly.

You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers in the local area. The job involves walking long distances, working outdoors in all weather, and a physically demanding, fast-paced schedule.

Job type: Fixed Term contract ( 6 months )

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days across Monday - Sunday – 09:30/15:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work some Sundays at Malton Delivery Office, YO17 7HS between 11:00-17:00.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
