Royal Mail Downpatrick is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers in your local area.

This active, outdoor role involves rotating shifts, some weekends, and training is provided. A full UK driving licence is required and you must pass a driving assessment; overtime is paid, with excellent pension and wellbeing support.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills and lift 10kg+ mailbags.

Location: Downpatrick Delivery Office, BT30 6AA

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 20:00 hours per week - working 5 days Monday - Sunday - 07:00am/18:00pm*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may be required to work out of another local delivery office during the busiest periods.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
