Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Dalkeith to sort and deliver letters and parcels across a 35-hour week, with a fixed-term contract of 9 months. You will drive a Royal Mail van, walk routes, and engage with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

Expect a physically demanding, fast-paced role with occasional weekend work, full training, and a focus on reliable service and community connection.

Location: Dalkeith Delivery Office, EH22 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 14:00/21:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
