Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie at Hatton Delivery Office to stay active while serving the Derby area. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, building relationships with customers and working outdoors in all weather on a rotating schedule.

You will need a full UK driving licence and the ability to pass a driving assessment. Training is provided; weekends are included, with a 12-month fixed-term contract and 30 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment

Location: Hatton Delivery Office, DE65 5WH

Job type: Fixed Term contract (12 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week - working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 13:00/19:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays at Burton Upon Trent DE14 1BB. Sunday Hours: 10:30-17:30

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
