Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Birmingham for a fixed-term 6-month role at £13.68 per hour with overtime. The job involves delivering letters and parcels, working a 30-hour week across five days, including Sundays on some shifts, and outside duties in all weather.

You will drive a Royal Mail van and walk routes, building customer relationships while staying active and connected to the community. Full training provided.

Qualifications

Location: Birmingham Central Delivery Office, B6 4AB

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 13:15/19:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Birmingham Central Delivery Office and the Sunday shift pattern would be from 10:00/16:30*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
