Job summary

Royal Mail, Stafford Delivery Office, is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels in Stafford, working 30 hours per week on a rotating schedule, including weekends.

Training is provided, a uniform and a red Royal Mail van are supplied. Applicants must hold a full manual UK driving licence (up to 6 penalty points) and be comfortable walking long distances in all weather, lifting 10 kg+ mailbags, and delivering with

Job type: Fixed Term

contract (9 months)

Salary:

£13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00

hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 13:30/19:30*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Stafford Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
