Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) for a fixed-term 6-month contract. You will work Sundays, with a rotating schedule and 7.5 hours per week, earning £13.68 per hour plus overtime. Training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided.

You will deliver letters and parcels, walk up to long distances, and drive a Royal Mail van daily. The role offers routine, independence, and community contact.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 7.5 hours per week - Sundays only -09:30-17:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditionsDelivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently

**As a Postie, you're expected to securely deliver all items on your route, including handling and delivering election materials and certain items (such as food products or alcohol) in line with Royal Mail business standards.
