Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Brighton, covering Rottingdean Delivery Office. The role is fixed-term for 6 months, 30 hours per week across 5 days in 7, including some Sundays. Salary is £13.68 per hour with paid overtime and a monthly payout.

You will sort mail, drive a Royal Mail van, and deliver to local customers, while staying active and outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willing to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass driving assessment.
• Physically fit to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:45/14:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Brighton Delivery Office 10:00 - 16:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
