Job summary

Royal Mail in Portslade by Sea is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a 6-month contract on a 30-hour week. You’ll sort mail at the office, deliver by van and on foot, and work outdoors in all weathers across a 5-in-7 rota.

Full UK manual driving licence required; you’ll pass a driving assessment and wear the iconic red Royal Mail van. Training is provided, with a focus on reliability, customers, and efficient routes, plus paid overtime and benefits.

Job type: Permanent contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00-15:00 or 13:00-21:00

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
