Job summary

Royal Mail Bodmin Delivery Office is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for a fixed-term 12-month contract. The role involves delivering letters and parcels in Bodmin, with a 30-hour week across Monday to Sunday and a rotating shift pattern.

You will need a full UK driving licence and be physically fit to walk long distances, handle mailbags, and work outdoors in all weather. Training and a uniform are provided.

Job description

Location: Bodmin Delivery Office, PL31 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract, 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:45/15:45*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

Due to operational demand, you may be required to work occasional Sundays throughout peak periods.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcelsBusy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
