Job summary

Royal Mail invites applications for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Blaydon-On-Tyne. The role covers 30 hours per week across Monday–Sunday with a 09:00–21:00 rota and includes weekend work. You will sort, deliver by van and on foot, and engage with customers in your local area.

Full training, a uniform and a Royal Mail van are provided. Candidates must hold a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit to lift mailbags, and demonstrate reliability and customer focus.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/21:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
