Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Alnwick seeks a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift, across 31 hours per week with a mix of 08:00-16:00 and 16:00-21:00, including some weekends. A full UK manual driving licence is required, with up to six penalty points, and you’ll pass a driving assessment.

You’ll be active outdoors daily, walking long distances, building customer relationships, and contributing to a trusted community service.

Location: Alnwick Delivery Office, NE66 2DD

Job type: Permanentcontract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 31:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:00-16:00/16:00-21:00*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays as per the rota.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
