Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Bristol to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift schedule. The role involves outdoor work, walking long distances, and driving a Royal Mail van daily, with Sundays at Bristol South East Delivery Office as required.

You will sort mail, deliver to customers, and build relationships while working in all weather. Training and a uniform are provided; overtime is available.

Location: Bristol Rurals Delivery Office, BS39 5AZ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available

Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday

Monday - Saturday hours: 08:45 - 15:10

Sunday hours: 09:00 - 16:00

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
