Job summary

Royal Mail in Cambridge is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a rotating shift. The role is based at Cambridge Delivery Office, with Sundays required and a 37-hour week across five days.

You will sort mail, drive a Royal Mail van, and walk routes in your local area, building relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence required (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, lift 10 kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused in a busy environment.
• Strong organisational skills and resilience for routine, varied days.

Location: Cambridge Delivery Office, CB1 7QQ

Job type: Fixed Term contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available
Working hours: 37:00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:30-16:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Cambridge Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independent
