Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Virtual School Post 18 Advisor to support care leavers as they progress into higher education, employment and training. This permanent role, graded at C with a salary range of £36,581 to £45,529, requires coordinating with Personal Advisors, HE providers and other agencies to ensure tailored transition plans.

You will advocate for post-18 options, maintain records, and contribute to multi-agency meetings, while aligning with safeguarding policies and equity

Qualifications

• Experience of working with vulnerable post-18 students, including SEND or disabilities.
• Experience of working with higher education settings, SEND services or care-leaving services.
• Experience of advising post-18 students on career pathways, higher education, employment and training.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to understand and interpret complex written reports and data.
• Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve goals and deadlines.
• Ability to engage, communicate and build positive relationships with young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality educational advocacy, advice and support to care-leavers as they navigate post-18 options.
• Contribute to coordinated transition plans and create pathways into higher education, employment and training.
• Represent care leavers at panels, forums, working groups and multi-agency meetings.
• Coordinate the Virtual School’s central support offer for care leavers and oversee case records and reports.
