Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Virtual School Educational Advisor for Carers and Guardians. This role is permanent, with hybrid working (typically 1–2 days in the office) and a Grade C salary of £36,581–£45,529.

You will advise and train carers, guardians and residential care staff to improve educational outcomes for looked after children, developing resources and coordinating with partner teams.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and families in social care.
• Understanding of legislation and procedures relating to vulnerable children and those in care.
• Experience delivering training to adult audiences.
• Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice or attachment needs.
• Strong organisational skills to manage workload and statutory timescales.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to advise sensitively.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert education advice, support and guidance for carers and guardians.
• Design and deliver high‑quality training and e‑learning for carers.
• Build partnerships with SENAR, SENDIASS, Admissions and Exclusions teams.
• Promote high expectations for looked after children and support home learning.
• Create resources, training materials and website content on best practice.
• Support families with school transitions and use of Pupil Premium.
• Collaborate with education staff and social workers to ensure appropriate interventions.
