Job summary

Axcis Education is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist Post-16 SEND college in DA17. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to begin or develop a career in education, SEND, youth work, care, healthcare, or support work.

No formal Teaching Assistant qualification is required, although experience supporting young people with additional needs is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Experience supporting young people or vulnerable adults with SEND.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy and resilience.

Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND.
Support learners during vocational lessons including cooking, arts and crafts, life skills, community-based learning, and employability programmes.
Encourage participation, engagement, and independence in learning activities.
Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
Help students develop confidence, resilience, and practical skills for adulthood.
Use positive behaviour support strategies to promote engagement and achievement.
Support students during transitions, educational visits, and community activities.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SEND professionals to deliver personalised support.
Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
