Radis is seeking an experienced Qualified Positive Behaviour Support specialist to join our supported living services in Stoke on Trent. This hands-on in-house role sits at the heart of the service, working with the PBS lead, registered manager and wider team to help people we support live more fulfilling and independent lives.

You will bring PBS expertise into the home, coaching staff, reducing restrictive practice and ensuring person-centred support on good days and the harder ones.

Qualifications

  • 3 years' experience in adult social care or supported living with behaviours of concern.
  • Experience using PBS assessment tools or behaviour support plans.
  • Ability to coach staff and model person-centred practice.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced, Qualified Positive Behaviour Support specialist to work across our supported living services in Stoke on Trent. This is a hands-on in-house role at the heart of the service working alongside the PBS lead, registered manager and wider team to help the people we support live more fulfilling and independent lives.

You will bring PBS expertise directly into the home, turning assessments and evidence-based strategies into everyday practice through coaching staff, reducing restrictive practise and making sure support stays person centred through the good days and the harder ones.

Key Responsibilities

This role combines direct support with practice development.

  • Working alongside individuals as a part of their support team to promote positive, person-centred practice.
  • Coaching and role modelling effective PBS approaches in day-to-day support.
  • Creating, implementing, reviewing, and updating PBS plans in partnership with the person, families, staff teams, and managers.
Travel Requirements

You must hold a valid driving licence and have access to your own car. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed.

Training and Qualifications
  • Level 5 (or above) qualification in Health and Social Care, Learning Disability, Autism, Mental Health, Education, Psychology, or a related field.

OR

  • Level 3 recognised practice-based PBS qualification such as Implementing PBS.
  • Evidence of continuous development such as CPD training in relevant subject areas such as active support, trauma-informed practice, autism-informed practice, communication support, mental capacity, safeguarding, least restrictive practice, and human rights.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake NAPPI training up to level 3 as required including restrictive physical intervention.
Practical Experience required

(and able to give examples or demonstrate at interview)

  • 3 years working in adult social care, supported living, learning disability, autism, mental health, or complex needs services.
  • Providing direct support to individuals who present behaviours of concern.
  • Role modelling good practice, including communication, active support, emotional regulation, de-escalation.
  • Reporting and recording, and reflective conversations after incidents.
  • Creating, implementing, reviewing, and updating PBS plans in partnership with the person, families, staff teams, and managers.
  • Experience using PBS assessment tools, behaviour support plan quality tools, or organisational PBS frameworks.
Desirable Practical experience of

  • Collecting and using data such as ABC charts, quality-of-life measures, observations, and staff feedback to inform support strategies.
  • Implementing proactive strategies, teaching new skills, environmental adjustments, communication approaches, and safe reactive strategies as part of a person-centred approach to improving quality of life.
  • Leading reflective debriefs after incidents, focusing on learning and future prevention.

  • Key subjects such as the Mental Capacity Act and its application, Safegua
