Job summary

Dignus Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to deliver specialist PBS across services, working with individuals, families and multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes and improved quality of life.

This mobile role requires travel across sites, conducting assessments, developing PBS plans, coaching staff and delivering training to frontline teams, with a focus on least restrictive practices.

Responsibilities

• Deliver PBS training, workshops and refresher sessions.

• Champion least restrictive approaches and reduce restrictive practices.
• Produce assessment reports and PBS recommendations.

As a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner, you’ll play a key role in helping the people we support achieve positive outcomes and an improved quality of life.

You’ll work across our services, supporting individuals with complex behavioural needs and helping teams understand the reasons behind behaviour and how best to provide proactive, person-centred support.

What the role involves:

As a PBS Practitioner, you’ll provide specialist Positive Behaviour Support across Dignus services, working closely with individuals, families, support teams, managers and multidisciplinary professionals.

This includes:

• Conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs), behavioural observations and assessments
• Identifying factors that may impact behaviour, communication, wellbeing and quality of life
• Developing high-quality, person-centred and outcome-focused PBS plans
• Reviewing PBS plans and evaluating their effectiveness through outcome measures
• Supporting services to implement proactive and preventative behavioural strategies
• Managing a caseload of individuals requiring specialist PBS support
• Providing specialist advice on complex behavioural presentations
• Supporting complex admissions, transitions and placements
• Developing crisis prevention and response strategies where appropriate
• Working with families, advocates and multidisciplinary professionals
• Coaching managers and frontline colleagues in the practical application of PBS principles
• Delivering PBS training, workshops and refresher sessions
• Supporting staff competency assessments and development plans
• Facilitating reflective practice following significant incidents
• Becoming a PROACT-SCIPr UK Instructor and supporting the delivery of training to frontline teams
• Monitoring the implementation of PBS plans across services
• Reviewing behavioural incident data and identifying themes and trends
• Conducting PBS audits and practice observations
• Supporting services to develop action plans and improve outcomes
• Championing least restrictive approaches across Dignus services
• Identifying opportunities to reduce restrictive interventions
• Supporting teams to develop positive alternatives to restrictive practices
• Ensuring restrictions are appropriately reviewed, justified, documented and monitored
• Analysing behavioural data and outcome measures
• Producing assessment reports and PBS recommendations

Working pattern:

This is a mobile role requiring travel across Dignus services. You will work flexibly across multiple locations, providing specialist support where it is needed and working closely with operational teams, individuals and external professionals.

The role will involve a combination of service visits, behavioural assessments, observations, meetings, training delivery, coaching and report writing.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.

What we're looking for:

We welcome applications from experienced Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners, Behaviour Specialists and professionals with a strong background in supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and complex behavioural needs.

You may be a great fit if you have:

• Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and/or complex behavioural needs
• Experience conducting behavioural assessments and developing PBS plans
• Experience coaching and supporting operational teams
• Experience working within social care, supported living, residential care or specialist services
• Experience analysing behavioural data and outcomes
• Strong knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and Functional Behaviour Assessment methodologies
• Knowledge of person-centred planning and Active Support principles
• Knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act and restrictive practice reduction
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong report-writing, analytical and problem-solving skills
• The ability to influence, coach and build confidence in teams
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• The ability to work independently across multiple services

You will need a Level 5 qualification or above in Health & Social Care, Psychology, Learning Disabilities, Behaviour Support or a related discipline, alongside a PBS qualification or equivalent specialist behavioural support training.

A BILD-accredited PBS qualification or a degree in Psychology or a related discipline would be desirable.

Experience of supporting forensic, mental health or specialist autism services, delivering formal training programmes or supporting CQC inspections and quality improvement initiatives would also be advantageous.
