Job summary

Maven Capital Partners in Glasgow is seeking a Portfolio Executive to join the Scottish team. You will support investee management, challenge strategy, monitor growth and cash against plans, and help deliver value creation across a diverse portfolio backed by institutional investors.

You will attend board meetings, provide robust portfolio updates, prepare investment papers, and help expand the portfolio through new products, markets, and potential bolt-on acquisitions.

Qualifications

• No less than 5 years’ relevant work experience.
• Experience in financial or commercial management in a business backed by an institutional investor, or demonstrable track record of operating as a business partner to achieve profitable business growth.
• Experience of working with SME environments and entrepreneurial management teams aiming for growth.
• Knowledge and understanding of corporate finance transactions (equity and debt funding).
• A proactive approach and ability to multi-task and work to deadlines with minimum of supervision.
• Strong communication and influencing skills and experience of managing multiple stakeholders.
• Resilient and resourceful when facing challenging situations with investee businesses.
• Exhibit ability to solve problems with commercial acumen.

Responsibilities

• Proactive management of an investee company portfolio ranging from high potential growth businesses in the scaleup phase, through to established SMEs requiring a more strategic approach.
• Hands-on support to portfolio companies requiring direct input and guidance to address specific business opportunities and challenges, including new products and new markets, cost base optimisation, M&A support for bolt-on acquisitions, new business initiatives and implementation of successful exit strategies.
• Attendance at investee company board meetings and meetings with senior management teams to provide strategic support and constructive challenge.
• Provide robust and insightful monthly/quarterly updates and reviews of individual and consolidated investee company performance within the portfolio.
• Prepare papers for the Maven investment committee for follow-on funding or amendments to the investment terms.
• Attendance at local business networking events to raise Maven’s profile with potential investees and investment intermediaries.
• Work collaboratively and support other members of the portfolio management team in monitoring the portfolio and helping with the value creation agenda.
• The successful candidate will carry out any other duties that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or member of the leadership team. This may include consultative support and guidance to other team members regarding their portfolio responsibilities.

Maven Capital Partners is looking for a Portfolio Executive to join our Scottish team. The role will report directly to the Partner responsible for the region.

Deployment of capital from a range of client funds including Maven’s Venture Capital Trusts and the Investment Fund for Scotland (IFS) has resulted in a significant and growing portfolio of Scottish investments. The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to join an experienced investment house, gaining valuable exposure to SMEs at different stages and operating across a wide variety of sectors.

You will provide assistance and guidance to investee company management teams, challenge strategy, monitor growth and cash requirements against plan, support the delivery of value creation plans, and leverage professional network contacts where appropriate, with the overall aim of increasing shareholder value.

RESPONSIBILITIES
