About the team and role

We are passionate about uncovering and leveraging new data-driven insights to drive business decision-making. Fast growing and full of ambition, much has been built over the last four years and we are looking for someone who can build on this and work collaboratively to strengthen portfolio analytics capabilities further. As part of the Portfolio Analytics team, you will work closely with stakeholders and translate business needs into practical tools and support opportunities to drive superior underwriting performance.

The role will support the Portfolio Analytics Manager in working collaboratively with the Chief Analytics Officer, Chief of Staff, Data and Technology teams, underwriters and wider Analytics function (Pricing and Data Science teams) to deliver tools that bolster underwriting performance and provide deeper insights. There will also be some collaboration with claims and the reserving and capital teams to leverage opportunities for additional data signal.

The successful candidate will do this by:

Supporting the delivery of portfolio analytics activities, including:
  • Supporting development and delivery of the portfolio analytics strategy and roadmap
  • Working collaboratively to design, deliver and embed insightful pricing and analytics visualisation dashboard suites and other analytics tools to drive underwriting performance and support smarter, faster decision making
  • Collaborating closely with key stakeholders in developing the above, including Underwriters, Claims, Pricing actuaries, Data Scientists, Finance, Senior Management and the Data and Technology teams
  • Supporting the design and implementation of the process for MI standardisation and accreditation
  • Supporting the design and embedding of pricing model and analytics framework best practice. Collaborating with pricing and other teams to oversee consistency between lines of business on modelling approaches and the calculation of key metrics, structure of models (where appropriate) and how models are maintained. Ensuring data structures support both user and analytics needs efficiently. Working collaboratively with pricing actuaries and data scientists to shape the roadmap delivery of third party vendor pricing models
  • Collaborating with IT in ensuring alignment of data and infrastructure with pricing and analytics needs, including defining which additional data sources are needed, how they should flow through our systems and how they should be tested to ensure sign off. Provide oversight and direction to IT on new models / systems.
  • Supporting the build and enhancement of Committee reporting to give greater insight into emerging business performance and trends.
  • Providing support for Board, Management and external reporting
  • Getting to know our data and business model, and to offer challenge and insight.
  • Undertaking ad hoc queries on dashboard builds/amends, data requests and portfolio queries
  • Supporting other Analytics workstreams in line with business needs
  • Producing and maintaining relevant documentation.
To do this, we’re going to need you to:
  • Have strong technical building skills: excellent PowerBI, SQL, Excel; Python knowledge would be a plus.
  • Understand the specialty (re)insurance industry and the key performance measures
  • Have experience in analysing data sources and dashboard design to enable the provision of insights, ensuring a high degree of data quality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work ethic
  • Have good experience of the process behind the MI delivery lifecycle (build, test, sign off, deploy)
  • Be organised and disciplined to structure work and ensure timely delivery
  • Have relentless curiosity and a willingness to take new initiatives
  • Be adept at data manipulation as well as presentation and communication skills
  • Be able to juggle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Having Lloyd’s/London Market/Actuarial Experience would be a plus (actuarial study support available for candidates interested in this)
