Job summary

John Lewis is seeking a Customer Delivery Porter to join our Network Customer Delivery Hub. You will deliver, assemble, and install products directly in customers' homes, following planned delivery routes and maintaining the highest standards of customer service.

As a partner in the John Lewis & Partners brand, you will promote the partnership through professional conduct, safe working practices, and courteous interactions with customers. Flexible working and DBS/vetting may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift and handle large items (sofas, white goods, furniture, beds, and mattresses).
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-centric mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador for John Lewis, keeping customer service as top priority and delivering an outstanding experience.
  • Start your shift at the delivery hub and assist the warehouse team with loading the lorry for the day's scheduled routes.
  • Manage deliveries and installations in route order using a Partner Device.
  • Demonstrate respect and courtesy for customers' homes, handling unexpected situations calmly to find the best solutions.
  • Support the driver in safely installing, assembling, and disconnecting free-standing appliances, furniture, and TVs.
  • Efficiently demonstrate how newly installed products work and stay updated on new products and technologies.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to Health & Safety guidance, manual handling procedures, and GDPR requirements.
  • Keep delivery vehicles clean at all times and report any accidents, incidents, or near misses immediately to the management team.

About the role

As a Customer Delivery Porter, you will be the face of the John Lewis & Partners brand. Operating out of our Network Customer Delivery Hub, you will deliver, assemble, and install products directly in our customers' homes following planned delivery routes.

You will promote the Partnership brand by maintaining a professional and courteous manner toward other road users, delivering outstanding customer service, and ensuring full compliance with the Working Time Directive, Health & Safety legislation, and Partnership Policy.

Due to working time regulations, applicants must be 18 years or over to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Essential skills/experience you’ll need
  • Ability to manage the physical demands of the role, including lifting and handling large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-centric mindset.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role.
  • Previous experience of the installation of white goods, building of furniture or associated skills.
Shift pattern and working hours

41 hours per week across 4 days on a 5 week rota. 2 shift patterns available: 1 (AM Shift) - Monday-Saturday 06:00-17:00. 2 (PM Shift) - Monday-Friday 10:30-21:30, Saturday 07:00-18:00
