Job summary

Circle Health Group’s Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield is seeking a Porter (Bank) to support the Portering team on an on‑call, as‑needed basis. You will assist with patient, equipment and goods movement, escorting patients and maintaining patient comfort and dignity throughout your shift.

Experience in front-line customer service and basic PC skills are required; healthcare or hospitality portering experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Front line customer facing experience.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including software and systems.
• Maths and English GCSE at grades A-C or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks to meet site requirements, including movement of patients, equipment and goods.
• Escort patients to rooms or other hospital areas and explain facilities and services.
• Provide courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity is maintained.
• Provide facility security as required and support external patrols.
• Complete mandatory training as applicable.

We have an opportunity for a Porter to join their team of staff in the Portering department.

This is a bank role working on an as and when required basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to-day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.
• Explain hospital facilities and services to patients and family members when escorting people to rooms or other hospital areas.
• Provide a courteous service to internal and external customers.
• Ensure patient comfort and dignity are always maintained.
• Provide security for the facility as required within each specific hospital, ensuring compliance of security processes and external patrols are covered as appropriate to the hospital.
• Comply with all relevant mandatory training.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Front line customer facing experience.
• Previous portering experience in a healthcare, hotel or hospitality setting would be beneficial.
• Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
• Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
