Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver robust planning policies and strategies that align with local, regional, and national objectives.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy recommendations, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to provide expert advice on planning policy matters.
  • Prepare and present high-quality reports, policy documents, and consultation materials.
  • Support the preparation of evidence for public inquiries, hearings, and examinations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of planning policies, recommending updates and improvements as needed.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, legislation, and innovations in urban planning and policy development.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., RTPI).
  • Proven experience in policy planning, ideally within a consultancy, local authority, or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy frameworks, and development processes.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, with experience in preparing professional reports and presentations.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Day-to-Day
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and objectives.
  • Conducting in-depth research and analysis to support policy development.
  • Drafting and reviewing planning policy documents and reports.
  • Attending meetings, workshops, and consultations to provide expert input.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Keeping up-to-date with changes in planning legislation and policy guidance.
  • Contributing to the preparation of evidence for planning appeals and examinations.
