Client is in the process migrating the Electricity Transmission business processes from the current shared SCADA system to a new OSI Aspentech/DGM provided Monarch SCADA System.
This is necessary as part of separation from NESO (National Electricity System Operator) as currently share a SCADA system.
The new ET SCADA system will monitor/control c 350 electricity substations.
Each substation is made up of approximately 150 assets (connectors, circuit breakers, switch gears).
Each substation has an estimated 2,000 sensors that feed the health status and values of the assets back to the SCADA system.
The new SCADA will be integrated to other business systems to minimize the manual handling of data to meet regulatory objectives to “be more digital” and improve efficiency whilst maintaining safe systems of work.
The programme is being delivered in a mixture of SCRUM delivery until the end of SIT, with other test stages being run in Waterfall delivery.
There are 4 SCRUM Teams across the 5 functional areas (MWP, MRTF, MTNC, SVC & PNA (combined as the EMS team) and are made up of a combination of DGM, NGET business SME’s, test resource and resource from other suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
As the ET SCADA programme is replacing one SCADA system with another and migrating the data relating to devices on the network into the new system, there is a need to ensure that this data (or points) has been migrated correctly and the points in the database still correspond to the same real-world devices on our network.
This is the goal of the Point-to-Point test stage that uses an emulator to simulate devices on the network so that we can receive telemetry and send control commands and ensure the points are correct.
This stage is later expanded to use live telemetry and perform side by side comparisons with the old system.
The Point-to- Point test Analyst will work with the Business SME/s to ensure that the scope of the stage is agreed that the testing is documented appropriately and efficiently in JIRA/X-Ray and will raise and manage defects relating to the stage.
Work with the Business SMEs to agree and document the scope of the stage and document this in the Test Plan and manage its review and approval.
Estimate the work required for both the test analyst and SME feeding the information back into the wider team for planning purposes.
As the SMEs are part of SCRUM teams – ensure we have user stories in JIRA and on the backlogs for Point-to-Point testing to ensure the support required is planned for.
Agree how the tests and results will be documented and support the Business SME by documenting the tests, storing results and evidence in JIRA and SharePoint.
Monitoring and reporting on status, coverage and results feeding into the wider test reporting regime.
Raise and support the management of defects from the stage feeding into the wider Defect Management Process. Produce the test outcome report at the end of the stage
Key skills/knowledge/experience:
3+ years working as a Test Lead in a customer facing environment, ideally within a SCADA project.
Strong test planning, estimation, design, development, and documentation and execution skills. Experience using JIRA and XRAY (JQL Scripting)
Strong communication and teamworking skills, able to communicate technical and testing concepts to various stakeholders effectively.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to power systems and control systems engineering (e.g., IEC101, IEC104, GI74, IEC 61850, IEEE standards).
Good knowledge of SCADA and Reat-Time Control and NMS (Network Monitoring Systems) preferably OSI Aspentech / DGM Products although comparable Industry Product experience will be considered.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to power systems and control systems engineering (e.g., IEC101, IEC104, GI74, IEC 61850, IEEE standards).
